Safeguarding at Rayleigh Primary School
Safeguarding all pupils is at the heart of everything we do at Rayleigh Primary School and we operate on the basis that it could happen here. Every member of staff receives safeguarding training at the beginning of each academic year. Staff also receive additional training throughout the year from the Designated Safeguarding Leads as well as guest speakers.
We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels protected, valued and able to thrive. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we take this duty very seriously.
'Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all practitioners should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.'(Keeping Children Safe in Education – Sept. 2025)
We work closely with parents, carers and external agencies to make sure every child gets the right support. By working together, we can provide the best protection and care for our pupils.
Every child has the right to feel safe and secure. We are dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and expect everyone in our community to share this commitment.

What Safeguarding Means
Safeguarding is about keeping children safe from harm. This includes:
- Protecting children from abuse, neglect and exploitation
- Promoting pupils’ health and wellbeing
- Ensuring children are safe online as well as in school
- Supporting pupils’ development so they grow up in safe and effective care
Our Approach
We have clear systems in place to identify concerns early and to act quickly when needed. All staff are trained to recognise signs of harm and know how to report concerns. Safeguarding is woven through our curriculum, helping children to learn how to keep themselves safe, both in person and online.
