Supporting Disadvantaged Pupils and Pupil Premium
At Rayleigh Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the chance to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. We recognise that some pupils may face additional barriers to learning, and we work hard to remove these so that all children can achieve their full potential.
Our aim is that all pupils, regardless of background, leave our school with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in the next stage of their education and beyond.
This links with our trust shared vision: Preparing learners for the world that awaits.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help schools support disadvantaged pupils. It is designed to close the attainment gap between pupils who are eligible for free school meals (or have been in the past six years), children in care, and children of service families, and their peers.
How we use Pupil Premium
We use our funding to provide carefully planned support that addresses both academic progress and wider wellbeing. This includes:
- High-Quality Teaching
Ensuring that all pupils benefit from excellent teaching every day is our top priority. We invest in staff training and development to make sure teaching meets the needs of every child. - Targeted Academic Support
We provide additional small group or 1:1 interventions in areas such as reading, writing and maths. These are led by teachers and skilled support staff to help close learning gaps and build confidence. - Wider Strategies
We use funding to support pupils’ broader development and wellbeing. This might include enrichment opportunities such as trips and clubs, mentoring, breakfast provision, or access to resources that ensure every child can fully participate in school life.
Impact and Outcomes
We monitor the progress and wellbeing of disadvantaged pupils closely and review our approach regularly. Each year, we publish a Pupil Premium Strategy Statement, which sets out our plans, how funding is used, and the impact on pupils.
