Science - Becoming a goal setter and problem solver.

This means: Children look positively toward the future and set and achieve realistic goals, they work independently and collaboratively to achieve solutions to probblems.

Examples: The ability to think and plan positively and solve problems can be shown by:-

  • setting achievable goals and planning to achieve them in school work or other personal areas.
  • learning from experiences, revising goals and making changes if necessary.
  • working on ones own or with others to produce work of exceptional quality which is innovative.
  • working out how to use new technology.
  • attempting a task a second time in order to improve on the results.
  • planning and organising an activity to solve an identified problem and recording results effectively.

When we designed our curriculum we decided we could teach children better science if they had time to undertake experiments. Many of these experiments are investigations in the Primary School, however they all take time. By allowing our children to focus on science for three weeks they are able to gain adeep knowledge on the science process. This logical thinking process is not only yht key to successful science but also mathematical and english comprehension. The ability to hypothesise, deduct and review are key skills in all these subjects. As we work on our science modules illustrated below, we bring in applied language and mathematical skills.
