Welcome
In Year 5 the children are expected to set an example to the younger children of the school. This applies to the way they behave around the school and in the playground; their willingness to work hard; and in their appearance.
The children are encouraged to become more independent and take more responsiblity for their own work and learning .
Learning Support Assistant
In Year 5 our LSA is Mrs Landers. She will discuss the children's reading with them and supports in Literacy and Numeracy lessons.
Pencil Cases
The children may bring their own coloured pencils, pens, highlighters and other items of stationery to school in a regular sized pencil case.Handwriting pens must be black ink and of a handwriting style (not ballpoint).
Water Bottles
The children are allowed to drink water throughout the day. This should be in a clear plastic bottle and refreshed daily.
Reading Journals
The children in 5JP have been issued with reading journals in which they record any reading they do in school or at home. The children have the opportunity to read quietly after lunch each day and are encouraged to read daily at home. Most children will discuss their reading with an adult weekly. In Year 5, children are encouraged to discuss their books in a reflective way - why did they choose the book? who is their favourite character and why? would they recommend the book to a friend?
Passport To Success
The children should continue to work towards their passport targets. It is our aim to test the children once every half term.
PE
Class 5JP have PE on a Tuesday morning and Dance/Drama on a Friday morning, so the children should ensure their PE kit is in school on these days. The children should have a yellow T-shirt, blue shorts and black plimsoles; ear-rings should not be worn on these days, removed for the lesson or covered with surgical tape; long hair should be tied back.
School Council
In year 5, each class votes for two pupils to represent them on the school council. During the first week of the Autumn term, each candidate has the opportunity to put forward their manifesto and a secret ballot is conducted. The two pupils with the most votes represent the class on the school council.
For the year 2007-2008 the representatives for class 5JP are Gemma-Rose Gilson and Conor Gardiner.
