OK so the reason for this page is that it has details of the COOLEST ENGLISH HOMEWORK EVER (Probably) so cool that I need to publish it on the school website just so the children in Year Four can prove to you that they aren't making it up.
During the next few weeks (end of November beginning of December) we are working on Fantasy stories in English. It is important for the children to be reading fantasy stories as much as they can, but to truly immerse them in fantasy stories, especially the fantastic worlds they happen in. It would be REALLY HELPFUL if the children were able to watch some fantasy films.
Listed below are fifteen films that could be watched by you and your children to help them understand fantasy worlds. Some are suitable for family viewing others might not be suitable for younger viewers and you will need to look carefully at them before you let the children watch them. Some you may have seen, some you may not. Some are recent, some are older. Most of them are available to buy and rent from decent home entertainment stores. So here's the list...
Mr E says Good Family Viewing
The Neverending Story, The Princess Bride,
Labyrinth, Arthur & the Invisibles, Alice in Wonderland
Mr E says some consideration required, not all suitable for younger siblings

Prince Caspian, The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe, Harry Potter
Stardust, Spiderwick Chronicles

The Dark Crystal, Inkheart, The Dark Is Rising, Eragon, Krull
So wrap up on a miserable November afternoon, and escape to a fantastic world, and in the process help your children understand the amazing worlds of fantasy and there by improve their writing.
Have fun
Mr E
