Teddies for Tragedies

Mr Puddick, who has since left Rayleigh Primary, joined us just after Christmas 2006 and every break-time could be found sitting in the staffroom doing his knitting. This started a conversation about various knitting projects that members of staff have undertaken over the years. It was one of those rolling conversations which spawned the idea of knitting 'Teddies for Tragedies' as a charity project for this term.

Every Tuesday lunchtime Mrs Faulkner, Mr Puddick and Miss Rust are busy knitting in the Resource Room. Other members of staff pop in to help, and of course all this would not be possible without the enthusiastic support of the children from Years 6, 5 &4.

The class of 2007, over 80 bears graduated. Like people, bears come in all shapes, sizes and colours.

Ms Susan O'Neill from Havens Hospices, attended assembly to talk about Fair Havens and Little Havens Hospices and receive our first donation of bears.

If you would like to knit or crochet a teddy, please download a pattern from the 'Teddies for Tragedies' 'website.

We would like to thank everyone who has donated their time and support to this project: Donations of wool and kneedles came from various charity shops in the High Street, the Knitting Stall in Rayleigh Lanes Market and parents; Hobby Craft sent instruction leaflets;
