UNICEF - The Rights Respecting School
What Does This Mean?
The UNICEF Rights Respecting School is a school that creates an environment where the Rights of the Child are promoted. This is achieved by building a culture where everyone in the school acts responsibly, understanding that their actions have an impact on others. Simply, it is living the idea that you should treat others the way you expect to be treated and uses the Rights of the Child to create the expectations of how we should live.
Our school was set up with these underlying principles when it was amalgamated in 1995. We have worked hard to create an atmosphere where everyone is listened to and we strive to understand different points of view. An atmosphere where we work out solutions together and celebrate achievements as a whole school. Our past successes in Investors in People, Healthy Schools and Eco-Schools reinforces our belief that we are all important, we all live as part of the human race and to live well we need to look after this one planet of our birth.
Beyond this our work in achieving the International Award has given our children an appreciation of the lives of those outside England. Many of these exchanges have brought into focus the difficulties and differences children experience throughout the world. As a school, and as individual groups our children have worked hard to fund small improvements in the lives of others.
For your information there are two documents for you to download and read. One, 'Rights for Every Child' was the inspiration for our framed pictures seen around the school. Look out for them on our open days.
