Recorder Club

In the recorder club we welcome total beginners to those who can already play to join in playing individual pieces, concentrating mainly upon fingerings and note learning and also ensemble playing.

The group has been split up into two groups, younger beginners being year 2’s on a Monday lunchtime to gain foundation knowledge and the more intermediate, older children years 3 – 6 on a Tuesday lunchtime. This class is used as an extension to what they already know and to introduce them to ensemble playing and even the chance to play a different sized recorder to the standard descant instrument.

The recorder is an ideal starter instrument for children that wish to go on and play other wind instruments in the future.

Performances that have already taken place in 2007/08 have included a selection of Year 1 singing to the elderly at the Castle Road Daycentre. The choir have sung at the switch on of the Rayleigh Town Council Christmas lights, the ‘Light up a Life Service’ at Rayleigh Baptist Church and singing at Home Regal. Our highlight this term is for Years 2-6 to perform a carol service at Holy Trinity Church on 19th December.
