French -

French Every Day for Every Child.

This is our ambition at Rayleigh Primary. We employ two specialists who deliver French to all our children from Nursery to Year 6. The aim is to visit a class every day for fifteen minutes to keep the fench language alive by frequent repetition. We can manage this as the two specialists we employ also act as cover supervisors. This means the children rarely work with someone they do not know. We have found this a very successful method of delivering french and the local authority has vindicated this approach as an ideal solution for the primary school.

From Mademoiselle Dillon and Madame Liberto

The emphasis is on the children having fun whilst learning hence we teach both vocabulary and key concepts through a variety of games, songs, rhymes and other activities. We also pass across knowledge about the French people and their culture, an important part of learning a foreign language.

We have developed a systematic approach to teaching the language that has been based on following government guidelines, through specialist language advisors and through our own knowledge of the country and the language.

If you would like to help and encourage your children with their learning of the language there are many websites on the internet one of which is the BBC website: www.bbc.co.uk/languages/french/family

You could also look into French language activity books or go to the library and borrow a bi-lingual story book.
